HENRY VIII Claim
to
The Throne of England?
HOUSE OF PLANTAGENET ???
LINEAGE LINE 1?
JOHN OF GAUNT-1st Duke of Lancaster 3rd son of Edward III of England( Member of The House of Plantagenet). John was the only surviving son to reach adulthood. He was called Gaunt because he was born in Ghent, Belgium . Gaunt is the English rendering of Ghent.
.During his lifetime rumours circulated that he was actually the son of a Ghent butcher, perhaps because Edward III was not present at the birth and because he was not born in England, as a prince would be.
This story always drove him to fury.
HENRY VII & Elizabeth York
-LINEAGE 2
THE HOUSE OF TUDOR's Dubious Origins
Owen Tudor who was a Welsh courtier
( his father was a soldier & nobleman ) Tudor family of Penmynydd in North Wales.
And the second husband of Queen Consort Catherine of Valois , Henry V's widow.
( whom had a son by Henri VII of England)
Owen Tudor's son ,Edmund Tudor was created the 1st Earl of Richmond, being the half brother of Henry VII.
EDMOND TUDOR, along with his brother and father were taken into Henry's royal household. Henry was seemingly fond of his half brothers, and ennobled each of them with Edmund becoming Earl of Richmond on 15 December 1449 and Jasper, Earl of Pembroke on 23 November 1452.
As Earls, and recognised by court as the King's half brothers, Edmund and Jasper had unparalleled precedence over the other laypersons in court with the exception of the Dukes. They were each given lands.
After the death of Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, the royal line was at risk and considerations were made about the Tudor brothers inheriting the throne. There were concerns that while they had descended from the French royal line through Catherine, they had no blood relation to the English throne.
Both Edmund and Jasper were among a small group of personal advisers to the King by 1452, representing the only blood relations in court.
After a petition by the House of Commons of England, both Jasper and Edmund were recognised officially as legitimate half-brothers of the King and removed the statutory disabilities attributed with being considered Welsh. Throughout 1452 and 1453, they were given large monetary grants from the King, while Edmund was also given property in Westmorland and Lancashire. Edmund ran a profitable estate and invested in the wool industry based out of Boston, Lincolnshire. The King also granted him the medieval palace of Baynard's Castle, near to the Thames river in London.
Edmund was given the wardship of the nine-year-old Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Richmond and Derby, daughter of John Beaufort, 1st Duke of Somerset on 24 March 1453. She was the only heir of Beaufort and a kinswoman of the King. She had descended from the House of Lancaster through the eldest of John of Gaunt's bastard sons, John Beaufort. She had been previously married to John de la Pole, whose father, William de la Pole, 1st Duke of Suffolk had intended to seek the claim to the throne of her and any children should Henry fail to produce any heirs.William was murdered in 1450, and the marriage between Margaret and John was annulled in the first months of 1453 to enable her to be remarried to Edmund. It was this marriage on 1 November 1455 at Bletsoe Castle which enabled any offspring to lay claim to the English throne due to the inheritance of the Plantagenet blood through Margaret.
This accumulated in the War of The Roses thus,
A crisis emerged during the summer of 1453, as Henry fell ill lasting over 17 months, leaving him incommunicado and needing to be carried from place to place. Several parties sought to take power during this period, including Richard of York. Henry's wife, Margaret of Anjou, demanded to be declared Regent for the King, causing a division between her and the Tudor brothers. The War of The Roses ensued.
Henry VII was the last king of England to win his throne on the field of battle.
His successor was Arthur TUDOR Prince of Wales, son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. But after he died in a hunting accident his brother , the next oldest male Arthurs brother, Henry VIII was made Prince of Wales and eventually KIng of England. ( Elizabeth York daughter of Edward IV who was the SO CALLED 'SON' of Richard Plantagenet)
If this is an ILLEGITIMATE son with Elizabeth of York, daughter of Edward IV- (Documental evidence has come to light ( c2012) that Edward IV father was NOT his mother's husband Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York, but an unnamed archer.)
This would make The Tudors have NO CLAIM on Plantagenet blood lines!
( NB: Our current Queen does have other lines to The Plantagenet's and The Scottish Kings.)
This is important because
ONLY through EMPRESS MATILDA, whom Richard Plantagenet descends, can be of the Royal Ancient English and Ancient Scottish bloodlines.
EMPRESS MATILDA,was The Holy Roman Empress, her lineage goes back to the first Kings of England & Alfred The Great, The first King of The English and the first kings of Scotland, Malcolm III King of The Scots & King Duncan of Scotland & King of Alba. She married Geoffrey Plantagenet, Duche of The Normans and she bore him HENRY Plantagenet soon to be King HENRY II of England & France II.

George III
There is a story about a previous Quaker marriage to a Hanna Lightfoot and children born to the couple. Including a son named GEORGE REX who became George Rex of Knysa, South Africa. He has descendants there and in Australia and New Zealand.
This 'line'of course would not be illegitimate line, ( to The Quakers)but it was consider so by the royals of the day and is also not recognised today; disclaimers claiming they have disproved it. Or covered it up maybe?
George Rex'es decendants are still trying to making their claims today-Craig Rex has enlisted help from DNA reasearch.
George IV
( The Prince Regent & Later King)
Rumoured to have several illegitimate children by various women.
Yet none noted for posterity yet!

William Longespee Earl of Salisbury
William Longespee was the issue from Henry II and his mistress Countess de Tosny, making him illegitimate.
But did you know that Henry II wife
Elenor of Aqutaine divorced her first husband The King of France to marry Henry II. Therefore one could say,
by The Roman Church, which ruled in such matters of the day, would consider ALL of Henry II children illegitimate!

First 'known'mistress of Henry VIII. 'Bessie Blount'' was mother of his FIRST BORN son, who was illegitimate Henry Fitzroy
ROYAL BASTARDS?
Well anyone who has read my website, will now know that my family descends from two English/French kings illegitimate sons.
BUT I ASK THE QUESTION
One of our lines comes from Henry II Plantagenet and his mistress Ida de Tosny Countess of Norfolk and their son William Longespee, 3rd Earl of Salisbury.
The line of accession obviously goes down Henry II and his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, right?
ELEANOR OF AQUITAINE
WIFE OF HENRI II ?
BUT did you know that Eleanor of Aquitaine divorced her first husband to marry Henry Plantagenet?
MY QUESTION is
Does that not mean that Henri & Eleanors marriage was illegitimate in the eyes of the church of the day?
And as 'the church' was the only legitimate form of marriage, it must be recognised by the church/Pope?
Below is a quote from wikipedia
' As Duchess of Aquitaine, Eleanor was the most eligible bride in Europe. Three months after she became duchess, she married King Louis VII of France, son of her guardian, King Louis VI. As Queen of France, she participated in the unsuccessful Second Crusade. Soon after, Eleanor sought an annulment of her marriage, but her request was rejected by Pope Eugene III. However, after the birth of her second daughter Alix, Louis agreed to an annulment given that their union had not produced a son after fifteen years of marriage. The marriage was annulled on 11 March 1152 on the grounds of consanguinity within the fourth degree. Their daughters were declared legitimate and custody was awarded to Louis, while Eleanor's lands were restored to her.'
'consanguinity ' means issue from parents with the same bloodline. ( ancestors)
AND
historytoday.com says of Eleanor...........
' She had inherited her father’s enormous estates in her teens on his death in 1137 and her first husband, Louis VII of France, had been quite unable to stand up to her. She bore him two daughters, went on crusade with him and ordered him about until her infidelities and her failure to produce an heir proved too much. The marriage was annulled in March 1152 on grounds of consanguinity.
The annulment gave Eleanor back Aquitaine and Poitou, which she took with her eight weeks later to Henry, Count of Anjou and Duke of Normandy, to whom, incidentally, she was just as closely related as she had been to Louis.'
WHAT A POWERFUL AND RUTHLESS WOMAN
She then went on in her marriage to Henri, to align his own sons against him. The couple had 5 'legitimate'sons , William Count of Poitiers,( died young) Henry The younger ( to be King) Richard The Lionheart ( to be King), Geoffrey II of Brittany ( died young) and John Lackland. Her 2nd husband,Henry II Plantagenet had 1 known 'illegitimate' son William Longespee, 3rd Earl of Salisbury, who's mother was Ida de Tosny Countess of Norfolk,( Mistress after the falling out with Eleanor) and he possibly had another Geoffrey Arch Bishop of York ( not proven)by an unknown woman before he married Eleanor. The couple also had 3 daughters,Matilda of England, Duchess of Saxony,Eleanor of England, Queen of Castile and Joan of England, Queen of Sicily.
Once they were grown, she sought out her ex-husband The King of France to help her get the throne of England for her son Henry the younger and got both her sons, Henry and Richard to war against their own father Henry II and to take the throne NOW, rather than wait until the king's death
( he was only about 50 at the time!).
THEY FAILED.
Then Henry the younger died of an illness. So once again she encouraged Richard ( will become Richard I )to make war against his now ageing father.
HE FAILED.
HIS FATHER FORGAVE HIM, AND ONLY THEN CAST ELEANOR ASIDE.
Richard I( The Lion Heart ) who was an absentee King, later died in crusades, and the throne was left to the youngest son John Lackland, who NEVER went out against his father.
SORRY ELEANOR OF AQUITAINE FANS!
Although by standards of the day Henri II appeared faithful to Eleanor until she waged war against him and she was put away by him in luxury! He later had 1 known mistress Ida de Tosny Countess of Norfolk whom fathered a son by him and there was also the fabled' Rosamund' ( not sure if fact or fiction).
Eleanor on the other hand, had be rumoured to be frequently unfaithful to both her husbands.
In fact it is said she had bedded her own father in law Geoffrey Duke of Normandy, Henri's father!
HENRY WAS STRONG BUT FAIR
' Queen Eleanor was arrested and imprisoned for treason. Once apprehended, she spent the next 16 years shuttled between various castles and strongholds in England, where she lived in luxury as the kings behest. She was suspected of agitating against her husband’s interests and said by some to have played a role in the death of his favourite ( fabled )mistress, Rosamund. After years of rebellion and revolt, Young Henry finally succumbed to disease in 1183 and died, begging on his deathbed for his mother’s release. Henry released her, under guard, to allow her to return to England in 1184, after which she rejoined his household at least for part of each year, joining him on solemn occasions and resuming some of her ceremonial duties as queen.'
